At Cradles to Crayons Kindergarten & Junior School, we believe in nurturing talent beyond the classroom. This dedication to holistic education was on full display at the Kikuyu Sub-County Drama Festival, held on 14th February 2025 at Alliance Girls’ High School. Our Drama Team showcased their incredible skills in the Gikuyu Singing Game and a Solo Verse Performance, earning 1st place and 2nd place, respectively.
This remarkable achievement highlights the power of drama and performing arts in shaping young minds. In this blog, we celebrate our students’ success, the impact of drama in education. And the significance of embracing cultural heritage through performance.
The Kikuyu Sub-County Drama Festival was a stage where talent, culture, and passion came to life. Competing against top schools in the region, our Cradles to Crayons Drama Team delivered an outstanding performance that captivated the audience and judges alike.
The highlight of the festival was our rendition of the Kikuyu Singing Game. A traditional performance that beautifully showcased Kenya’s rich cultural heritage. Through rhythmic movements, engaging storytelling, and expressive acting, our students brought the play to life—earning a well-deserved 1st place trophy 🏆.
In addition to the group performance, our talented solo performer took center stage with a Solo Verse Performance delivering a powerful and emotional recital. Their exceptional confidence and eloquence secured 2nd place 🥈, proving that individual talent shines just as brightly as teamwork.
These victories are a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion our students poured into rehearsals. The performances were not just about winning but about celebrating creativity, tradition, and the power of expression through drama.
Participating in events like the Kikuyu Sub-County Drama Festival goes beyond just winning awards—it plays a crucial role in the overall development of students. Drama is a powerful tool that enhances creativity, self-expression, and cultural appreciation. Here’s why drama and performing arts should be an essential part of every child’s education:
Performing in front of an audience at Alliance Girls’ High School required our students to step out of their comfort zones. Whether in the Kikuyu Singing Game or the Solo Verse Performance, they learned to speak clearly, project their voices, and express emotions confidently—skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.
Drama is a collaborative effort. Our students worked together to perfect their performances, practicing timing, expression, and coordination. The experience of working towards a common goal fosters teamwork, discipline, and patience—qualities that are valuable in all aspects of life.
Through drama, students explore their imagination, create characters, and bring stories to life. The Gikuyu Singing Game allowed them to embrace traditional storytelling, while the Solo Verse Performance encouraged personal expression through poetry and narration.
Performing the Gikuyu Singing Game was more than just an act—it was a way of celebrating Kenya’s rich cultural heritage. Drama provides an opportunity for young learners to connect with their traditions, language, and history, ensuring that these cultural treasures are passed down to future generations.
Memorizing scripts, adapting to unexpected situations on stage, and reacting to the audience’s response require quick thinking and adaptability. These are essential problem-solving skills that help students become more resilient and resourceful.
Winning at the Kikuyu Sub-County Drama Festival is a remarkable achievement, and we could not be prouder of our talented students. Their success at Alliance Girls’ High School is a testament to their dedication, discipline, and love for drama and performing arts.
Our Cradles to Crayons Drama Team went above and beyond to deliver stellar performances. Securing 1st place in the Gikuyu Singing Game and 2nd place in the Solo Verse Performance is no small feat, especially at the sub-county level, where the competition is fierce. Their hard work and commitment to excellence truly paid off.
But beyond the trophies and rankings, we take pride in the life skills our students have gained. They have learned the value of teamwork, perseverance, and self-confidence—qualities that will serve them well in their academic journey and beyond.
This victory also reflects the incredible effort of our teachers and mentors, who dedicated their time and expertise to guide the students through rehearsals. Their support and encouragement played a crucial role in ensuring each performance was polished, expressive, and impactful.
We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to our parents and guardians. Whose unwavering support has been instrumental in shaping these young performers. Your encouragement and belief in your children’s talents continue to inspire them to reach greater heights.
